New band being formed...
PLEASE READ THIS AD CAREFULLY AND PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND UNLESS YOU ARE SERIOUS - PLEASE PROVIDE ALL THE REQUESTED INFO IF YOU WANT A RESPONSE - WE HAVE NO TIME FOR BOZOS AND CLOWNS... We have a huge amount of connections - are getting some internet airplay and have access to CD distribution deal thru a small record label and a major label... We are looking for a lead singer with a raspy voice and true talent - image is secondary but still important - so you should have a image of some sort - singer should be under 30 or look under 30 yrs old... Should also be able to write awesome lyrics - should also have a PA and mic system. Current pics of you are also required for the audition. Drummer wanted should be able to play some basic double kick bass and should also have true talent and own equipment.(If you play with a heavy backbeat then you may be right) Bassist we are looking for should also have some true talent but we want the bass loud in the mix - so bassists with a style of Flea, Matt from Rancid, Geddy Lee, Cliff Burton etc is what we are hoping for. Must also have own equipment... Guitar position is filled. We will be renting a regular rehersal studio and rent will be split among the members of the band. So please no responses if you have no income... This is a all original Hard Rock band/ Metal band - alot of the songs are done but there are some songs that still need the lyrics and bass and drums added so you need to be confident and able to contribute to the band... The music sounds a bit like a cross between AC/DC, Greenday, GnR ... If you are interested please respond to this ad with your info -(music background, age, experience you have had, studio experience if any - if you are a singer please also send a CURRENT photo and if you have a demo please email that too) We have a website set up with some of the songs that have already been done for you to hear - so once we hear from you we can direct you to that site... GUITARIST SEEKS MUSICIANS FOR NEW BAND -
DRUMMER / BASSIST / KEYS / FEMALE VOCALS hi there... i'm sorry if this ad is a bit (or really) long, but i want to be as clear as possible as far as what I'm looking for and what I'm all about, so as to not waste my time or yours... i'll try to keep it brief... A LITTLE ABOUT ME: my name is chris... my main instrument is guitar... i also play drums, trumpet, a little piano, and i am recording engineer (with his own gear) and producer, and have some experience doing live sound... i'm also an adequate but not outstanding singer... mainly i would say that my influences are on the more artistic side of rock and roll... to me rock and roll can really include just about any style of music, and my influences are similarly varied... there isn't any particular style of music i don't like, but of course there are bad and lame examples of anything... i could make a list of about a million bands, albums, and songs that i'm into, but i'll try to keep it to the bare minimum and hopefully you'll be able to extrapolate what i'm talking about... my favorite artist is frank zappa... mainly what i like about frank is his insistance on playing any kind of music at any time for whatever reason, and his outlook on lyrical content and artistic presentation... what Frank does, in a non-musical way i guess, is very close to my roots as a high-school kid playing drums in punk bands in the 90's... some more of my favorite bands include (but not limited to): steely dan, the beatles, hendrix, black sabbath, led zeppelin, queen, nirvana, metallica, nofx, smashing pumpkins, pantera... the style of music that these bands play really has nothing to do with it... i just like how these bands approach what they do... there are alot of other bands that play alot of other different styles... i like rock, country, blues, metal, rap, pop, electronic music, classical, soul, easy listening, jazz, funk, disco... you name it, there's something about it that i like... my whole motivation for STARTING a band as opposed to trying to find a band to join is that because i like all these different styles of music, i find it very hard to be happy in a band that only plays one style of music... alot of my friends are into punk rock and metal and hardcore, which i like, but i can't stand playing that kind of stuff all the time... also, my outlook and reason for playing any type of music is somewhat different than most people... to use the punk/metal/hardcore example again, i find that people that play that kind of music have a certain seriousness about themselves that i don't share... there's alot of posturing involved in playing that kind of music... but to me, it's just another color on my musical pallet to use... sometimes i want to do it seriously and sometimes i want to make fun of it... either way, you have to be able to play it well to get your point across... i find that the people that can play heavy music well, for example, are not interested in playing other kinds of music, for whatever reason (maybe they feel stupid or maybe they don't think they have the chops, i don't know)... and people that play blues or country don't want to play metal... i need people that not only can play it all but also WANT to play all these different styles of music... another big reason why i'm looking for people to start a band as opposed to joining one is that, as much as i would like this band to ultimately be an original band, i also enjoy playing cover songs, and really it is part of my whole artistic outlook to play cover songs... i don't agree that a band that plays covers is necessarily less artistically legitimate than a band that does original material exclusively... another big reason why i want to play cover songs is that i've seen so many bands get ripped apart because of lack of finances... where i come from (northern ontario), bands travel for hours to play for gas money... it's even worse in toronto where alot of original bands pay to play... since i enjoy playing cover songs anyway, i don't see any reason why we can't play cover songs in some shitty dive for $500 a night or play a wedding or something, especially while we're on tour playing our original music... just makes being in a band alot easier financially, and playing anything different certainly helps build musical chops... basically what it comes down to is that i am trying to start this band so that i can play the kind of music that i want to play, as opposed to supporting somebody else's outlook anymore... i've done that alot and i just don't enjoy it anymore... i'm hesitant to say that i want to be "the boss" and the only person who has a say in anything, because that obviously scares people away, but if you don't share my outlook on these things, i'll either ask you to quit, or i'll break up the band... i don't want to be involved with people who think they're too good to play this or that... i appreciate and encourage suggestions of any kind, but ultimately, like i said, i'm starting this band to do music the way that i want to do it, not somebody else... if you feel that your outlook on things is too important to be ignored from time to time, then i would suggest that you do what i'm doing and try to start your own band... this one is for me... WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR: basically, i need a drummer and a bass player just to be able to start working... ideally, the core of the band will be me on guitar, a drummer, a bassist, a keyboardist and probably a female vocalist... some other people that do some other different things will also probably drift in and out of the band, so if you're a shredding guitar player or a lap steel player or a horn player or a violinist or whatever, don't hesitate to get a hold of me (i can't guarantee that you'll be "in the band", but there are certainly instances where i could use some different people)... also, don't be surprised and/or insulted if you're not the only person that does what you do that i work with... everybody brings something different and i'm not against using what i need when i need it... for example, i have a friend who is a very technique based drummer, but he lacks some things in the "feeling" department... there have been times when i've played the drums on a track or used another drummer because i think, despite the fact that he is actually a "better" drummer, he wasn't the better drummer for that track... you might be the right guy for one gig and not another... also, it makes me very paranoid to rely on any one person... i've always said that the worst thing about playing music is the people that you have to rely on... it would give me some piece of mind to have a few different people who can pull off a job for me, at least until i get the impression that you are as enthusiastic about what i'm doing as i am... i won't get into specifics as far as what i'm looking for as far as style and all that... i really just want to see what's out there and go from there... i do, however, want to make a few things clear as far as some non-musical things i'm looking for or not looking for... anybody that is in this band has to have a very open mind and have a good sense of humor... a sick, warped sense of humor like mine would be even better :) i'm not interested in being involved with self-righteous morality whores... also, since musicians are known for this sort of thing, my stance on drugs and alcohol is as follows: i'm not your father, i'm not going to tell you what you can and can't do, i'm not going to proclaim some sort of rule against doing this or that, but the second your indulgences get in the way of me being able to do what i want to do, you're out... like, i'll kick you out of the band in the middle of a song kind of thing... i might throw my guitar at you :) ok, but seriously, just try to keep it together... i myself am a relatively frequent drinker and, these days, an occasional marijuana user (i used to be worse), so far be it from me to judge anybody, but like i said, you have to be able to pull off your part in all this... i'm going to go out of my way to make sure my own habits don't get in the way, please do the same... also, i'm not looking for anybody to fit into any particular "profile" to be in this band... i don't care how old you are, i don't care what color your skin is, or what your last name is, or whether you're a guy or a girl (i want a female singer only because i want to do some songs that a female would sing, like some motown stuff and some country, and also because of the typically higher vocal range), or if you're gay or straight, or if you used to be a man, or if you're a cop, or if you're ugly or beautiful or skinny or fat... i just want people that can play and want to be in this band and aren't going to bring baggage and problems to the band... one thing i see mentioned in alot of these ads is the issues of jam spaces, gear and transportation, so here's my outlook... number one, at least at first, we're going to have to rely on hourly rehearsal studios (which i will pay for, i guess), unless somebody has a better situation... i live in brampton and i don't have a car, so i'll be taking transit which necessitates that i travel light, so the whole hourly rehearsal thing actually kinda works out for me... i don't care if you have a car as long as you can get to wherever we need to be... if and when we play a gig or get our own space or play in some other situation where the gear is not provided, you will be ultimately responsible for getting yourself and your gear there... i do have some options in that instance for my own self and gear, and i will try to help whenever i can, but don't count on it... as far as gear goes, i don't care if you have "pro gear"... i don't care what it looks like or what brand it is, as long as it works 100% of the time and sounds good... so anyway, if you are a DRUMMER, a BASSIST, a KEYBOARDIST, or a FEMALE VOCALIST, and you think that you would like to come along with me in the direction i am trying to head, then please contact me... also, like i said, if you play any other sort of instrument, i welcome an opportunity to hear you play and see if we can't use you here and there... i am very serious about this and i haven't played in quite some time so i'm eager to get started as soon as possible... i look forward to hearing from you... thank you, chris black_heart_chris@hotmail.com • Location: Looking for a musician who loves funk! We are a drummer and bass/guitar player (our sax player is away in Japan but will be back in a few months time). We play instrumental music (no vocals). We have played around downtown Toronto for the last five years with the band name Hatch. We are in need of a musician who can commit to practicing twice a week. Our jam space is located at Kipling and Horner. The majority of what we play is funk, but we also like to mix it up with some rock and some surf. Our goal is to play live and make enough money to cover the rent of our jam space. We jam to The Meters, Medeski Martin and Wood, Led Zep and the Greyboy Allstars and also have some original material. We like to improvise as well. Good chemistry is important to us.....so lets meet and see what happens! cheers! -Simon

Hi, I am an experienced teacher in Toronto. I have been teaching and performing music for approximately twelve years. My principal instruments of performance are the double bass and electric bass. I love to teach people interested in expanding their ideas about music and growing as musicians. I don't have a strict agenda for teaching but I do espouse theory and traditional reading as basic values for one's musical development. I'm very open and flexible and expect students to be the same. I provide students with PC software for file sharing of teaching materials and I offer a private news group for student discussion. I am an active musician in the Toronto community.
I studied at Humber College, the University of Toronto, and studied classical music and technique through private lessons. I am available to teach from my mid-town Toronto home. Teaching Hours are quite flexible. Some of my musical influences: Jazz (Miles Davis, Coltrane, Jarrett, John Zorn), Classical (Beethoven, Shostakovich), Rock (The Beatles through Radio Head and everything inbetween), Reggae (Marley, Dub) Phish, MMW, Tom Waits, Fred Frith, Electronica (Square Pusher/Aphex Twin) lots more... Hope to hear from you. 416-901-1207 • Location: St.Clair and Bathurst
