This fall Leah Gold will once again be offering encaustic workshops out of her studio in downtown Toronto.


Encaustic Painting: 5 week course This course gives students the time to delve into the layering process that makes encaustic painting so exciting. We will use transparent glazes of wax, thick impastos, carving, scraping, and melting. Daytime: 12-2pm, Thursdays, October 8 through November 10 OR
Evening: 7-9pm, Wednesdays, October 7 through November 9 $175, plus some materials

Full Day Workshop in Encaustic Collage:
The translucence and flexibility of wax make it a perfect vehicle for collage. In this workshop we will create multi-layered images using found objects, tracings, drawings, and textiles. We will also cover the use of gold leaf and photo transfers. Saturday October 17, 11am to 5pm OR
Saturday October 31, 11am to 5pm $110 including materials

Full Day Workshop in Encaustic Painting:
This workshop covers traditional encaustic painting techniques. We will learn about the preparation of the paint, choosing and preparing the ground, and how to manipulate the hot wax. Sunday October 25, 11am to 5pm $110, including materials

Open Studio: Low daily rates for access to fully equipped encaustic studio.

Private classes available at $35/hr.

Art program for students of all ages.

Kathie’s Art Courses are designed to lead students toward educating or re-educating certain faculties where difficulties are experienced. Each project is approached in an artistic way and makes use of four main modalities: drawing, painting, sculpture and handwork.


Although the finished project is often beautiful as well as functional, the most important consideration is the process that students go through, a process that is both educational and therapeutic. For example, knitting, sewing, felting and sculpture perhaps most directly develop and train our fingers and the form building capacity of the hand muscles. Painting enhances color awareness, calms emotions and enriches imagination, while drawing trains fine motor skills, develops hand/eye coordination and has a calming effect on the inner life.

The art program has been taught in schools, retirement homes and corporations in the US and in Ontario, recently offering classes at: Donway Place, Massey Center, Ontario Early Years Centre, Hazelton Place, St Andrew's College and Torys LLP.
